Report features Utah educators using social media

UtahPublicEducation.org and Tami Pyfer, District 1 representative on the Utah State Board of Education, were featured today in Logan’s Herald Journal newspaper, “Educators take to Twitter and Facebook to reach students, co-workers, parents.”

Regarding Facebook, Pyfer says, “Even though I represent seven school districts in the northern part of the state, these public education issues affect people all over the state of Utah, and I’m friends with people all over the state. So it’s an efficient and effective way of getting the word out,” Pyfer said.

The story also quotes Logan City School District’s K-12 educational services director, Robin Williams, and Mount Logan Middle School teacher Eric Newell.

Reporter Ari Kirk quotes me describing what our goal is with the Utah Public Education social media sites: “We really want to foster a dialogue.”

Follow Pyfer on Twitter @tpyfer and UtahPublicEducation.org @UTPublicEd. You can also “like” Utah Public Education on Facebook to learn more and contribute to the online discussion about Utah’s public education system. There are photos on Flickr and check back soon for videos on YouTube.
