Prevention Dimensions Day photos document the annual event at Spring Mobile Ballpark

Photos from yesterday’s Prevention Dimensions Day at Spring Mobile Ballpark are now posted flickr. More than 12,500 Utah fourth, fifth and sixth graders filled the stands at Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake City. The event supports the Prevention Dimensions activities conducted in classrooms across the state through the school year. Prevention Dimensions is the Utah State Office of Education’s Safe and Drug-free Schools Program.

“Prevention Dimensions Day is one of the many, many activities we do to help support kids,” says USOE Safe and Drug-free Schools Program Specialist Verne Larsen. “Prevention Dimensions is a nationally recognized prevention resource that supports teachers in delivering Utah’s health core curriculum.”

Mascots from the Salt Lake Bees, Prevention Dimensions, crash dummies, Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper from Star Wars, the Days of ’47 Royalty, plus dozens of Utah students provided the entertainment in the pre-game show. Special guest speakers included Ashly Costa from Dancing with the Stars, Olympian Jimmy Shea, Utah PTA President Ilene Mechum and others.

Utah Governor Gary Herbert also proclaimed May 24, 2011, Prevention Dimensions Day and threw out the first pitch at the Salt Lake Bees game.

Utah First Lady Jeannette Herbert, also used the event to announce her new initiative to help parents and children, Uplift Utah Families. A video of her press conference is on our YouTube channel.
