Superintendent: Get involved in activities this school year

Utah State Superintendent of Public Instruction Larry K. Shumway is urging all Utah public school students to get involved in extracurricular activities in his back to school message for students and parents. Research shows that taking advantage of activities outside of school is a strong predictor of future success,  but not every student takes advantage of these programs. The Superintendent is asking parents to encourage their children to seek out these opportunities and share stories from their own life about how these kinds of programs helped them or could have helped them. A wide variety of student activities are available in every grade,  ranging from chess club in elementary school and student leadership in middle school to sports teams,  band and debate in high school. Learn more about available student activities by contacting your school or district’s administration or going to your school’s website.
