I hope to strengthen the network of people who are engaged in the issues affecting Utah’s education system today. By having an ongoing social media presence, the Utah State Board of Education and Office of Education are able to help community members become active participants in the education system. -Roxana Orellana, USOE Social Media Specialist
The Utah State Office of Education is proud to introduce Roxana Orellana as the new administrator for UtahPublicEducation.org. Orellana is the new social media specialist for USOE, and will be in charge of curating content for this blog and the other social media accounts associated with USOE and the Utah State Board of Education, including the Utah Public Education Facebook, Twitter, flickr and YouTube accounts.
As the new social media specialist, Orellana says she hopes to forge active relationships with the larger community.
“I hope to strengthen the network of people who are engaged in the issues affecting Utah’s education system today,” she says. “By having an ongoing social media presence, the Utah State Board of Education and Office of Education are able to help community members become active participants in the education system.”
Orellana is a former reporter for the Salt Lake Tribune who has covered the arts, theater, education and, most recently, crime and courts. She graduated from St. Catherine University in Minnesota with a degree in print journalism and a minor in English. While she grew up in Minnesota, and has called Salt Lake City home for the past 5 years, she originally hails from Honduras and is a member of the Utah association of Latino Journalists.
The Utah State Office of Education launched it’s social media presence in January 2011, to join the online conversation about Utah public education policy and model the use of these new communication channels for the state’s schools and education community.
