We want to hear what you think of the Utah Core Standards. The Utah State Office of Education added a survey on its website http://www.schools.utah.gov/main/ designed to solicit comments from the public about the standards.
The State Board of Education adopted the multi-state driven Common Core State Standards in math and English Language Arts in August 2010.
The standards, now part of the Utah Core Standards, were developed as a state-led effort to better prepare students for the global economy. They set clear goals for the learning that must take place by the end of the school year in each grade level to keep students on track to fully reach their potential by graduation.
The standards increase rigor and depth of understanding in the two core areas of education upon which all other learning is based: math and English Language Arts.
USOE has laid out on its website the specifics of what the new standards mean for students, parents and educators http://www.schools.utah.gov/core/. When completing the survey, please refer to this information in order to comment on a specific standard in a specific grade level.
