What is mathematics?_Diana Suddreth_Utah State Office of Education

Many of the calls we are receiving lately involve parents who are concerned because their students don’t have a textbook so they can’t get information on what is expected of their students.

An application that can help bridge this gap is Educreations. “Educreations is a recordable interactive whiteboard that captures your voice and handwriting to produce amazing video lessons that you can share online. Students and colleagues can replay your lessons in any web browser, or from within our app on their iPads.” Educreations lessons can be a great way to communicate to parents regarding the mathematics you are presenting in your classroom.

Although there are many examples available on the website, the best use of this tool would be to record your own videos or lessons that directly relate to your own classroom. It’s kind of like an easy way to set up your own Kahn Academy and make the videos of the quality you desire.

So, when am I supposed to create these videos, I have barely any prep time to get things ready for the day, let alone create a video, and my classroom doesn’t have a whiteboard.

So, I guess I don’t need a white board, just an ipad, or a computer, a bunch of time to plan a video, then time to create it. While it sounds great the time commitment is what’s concerning to me. I bring home papers to grade every night and have a pile of school work to do this weekend without even thinking about creating a video.
