Board Prepares to Gather Public Opinion on Utah High School Graduation Requirements

The Utah State Board of Education is considering updating Utah’s high school graduation requirements. The Board is reaching out to stakeholders, including the general public, for their opinions on the suggested updates. The outreach will begin with a webinar on March 22 followed by a tour around the state to gather opinion in public meetings. More information about the webinar and public meetings will be posted on the Utah State Office of Education website as it becomes available.

Board Accepts School Trust Report; Creates Task Force to Study Investment Structure

The Utah State Board of Education received an annual report from the School Trust. The Utah School Trust is in the top 1 percent of endowments in the nation. The Board also agreed to form a task force to study the investment structure of the fund, and recommended changes if any are needed. The task force is scheduled to report back to the Board during its August 2 meeting.

Board Takes Positions on Bills Pending Before the Legislature

Board Gives Preliminary Approval to Several Rule Changes

The Utah State Board of Education gave preliminary approval to the following new rules or rule amendments. Final approval will likely come during the Board’s March 8 meeting.

Board Gives Final Approval to New Rule on District and Charter Fiscal Policies

The Utah State Board of Education gave final approval to rule R277-113 LEA Fiscal Policies and Accountability. The rule sets up procedures and expectations for fiscal management at school-sponsored activities.

New Charter School at DATC Approved; Other Charter School Amendments OK’d

The Utah State Board of Education approved the application for Utah Career Path High, a proposed 500-student grades 9-12 school to be located on the Davis Applied Technology College campus in Kaysville.
