Stories from Utah Classrooms

Utah State Office of Education LogoImplementing the Math Core: Stories from Utah Classrooms

Many educators have been exposed to the instructional shifts required by the new mathematics standards, and transitioning to these shifts can be a challenge. Recommendation #1 from ASCD’s report Fulfilling the Promise of the Common Core State Standards: Moving from Adoption to Implementation to Sustainability http://t.congressweb.com/l/?GPBNEFCARCSIRDS states that educators need to have a deep understanding of the standards and the instructional shifts that they require.

Join ASCD staff member Efrain Mercado and Utah classroom teachers Sharon Christensen, Lisa Jasumback, and Travis Lemon as they dive deeper into the effects of implementing these rigorous standards. Christensen, Jasumback, and Lemon will recount their experiences with shifting their classroom instruction for the Utah Math Core Standards and outline the successes, challenges, and lessons learned to date.

Sharon Christensen, Lisa Jasumback, Travis Lemon, and Efrain Mercado May 22, 2013, 3 p.m. mountain time.
