Access the Special Ed. Essential Elements

Utah Special Education Advisory Panel (USEAP) seeks public inputDid you know … the Essential Elements (EE) have been out since September 2012?

Teachers of students with significant cognitive disabilities should be using them to link the age-appropriate grade level academic standard to students’ Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

These Essential Elements were developed with the expertise of the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) Alternate Assessment System Consortium.

The Essential Elements for language arts and math are specific statements of content and skills that link to the Utah Core Standards grade level specific expectations for students with significant cognitive disabilities and provide a bridge to the Utah Core Standards for students with significant cognitive disabilities to help them achieve grade differentiated expectations.

The EE will always be in draft format to accommodate periodic improvements as we learn more about students with significant cognitive disabilities. These are living documents. We encourage you to access them online.
