Education-Related Bills: Feb. 21, 2014

The Board took the following actions during its legislative meeting on Feb. 20. All votes were unanimous unless noted otherwise.2014 Education bills

  • The Board voted to support HB320 Educators’ Professional Learning.
  • The Board voted to support HB337 Teacher Salary Supplement Program Amendments.
  • The Board voted to support SB150 Education Task Force Reauthorization.

The State Charter School Board took the following actions during its Feb. 20 meeting.

  • The Charter School Board voted to oppose with comment SB122 Parental Rights and Accountability in Public Education.
  • The Charter School Board voted to support SB202 Charter School Funding Amendments.
  • The Charter Board voted to oppose with comment SB218 Charter School Amendments.  The bill was seen  as unnecessary because the application process already includes what it asks.
  • The Charter School Board voted to oppose with comment HB283S1 Nonprofit Entity Receipt of Government Money.
  • The Charter School Board voted to oppose HB116 School Construction Modifications.

Bills considered in the House Education Committee on Feb. 21.

  • HB116S1 School Construction Modifications. This bill was substituted and moved out of committee with a favorable recommendation. 13-1 vote. The bill is now in the House second reading calendar.
  • HB109 Public Education Capital Funding Equalization. This bill was substituted and moved out of committee with a favorable recommendation. 7- 6 vote. It’s now in the House second reading calendar.
  • SB103S1 Control of Classroom Time Requirements: This bill was amended and moved out of committee with a favorable recommendation. 11-4 vote.
  • SB148 Upstart Program Amendments This bill was moved out of committee with a favorable recommendation. 11-0 vote. It’s now in the House second reading calendar.
