Comments Sought on World Language Core Standards

The Utah State Board of Education is seeking comments on its proposed revision to the state’s world language core standards. The Board regularly updates core standards to reflect current needs and expectations of student learning. This is the first revision of the world language core standards since 2009.

The Board approved the draft update in January. The update came in response to requests from Utah school districts, charter schools, teachers, parents, business leaders, universities and legislators.

The standards set proficiency levels for students who learn foreign languages in Utah public schools.

A copy of the draft standards is available at www.schools.utah.gov/CURR/worldlang/Home/ProposedUTAHWORLDLANGUAGECORE.aspx.

Those who wish to comment on the draft should send those comments to World Language Specialist Gregg Roberts, gregg.roberts@schools.utah.gov,  by April 1.
