The panel, appointed by the Utah State Superintendent of Public Instruction, focuses on issues involving the education of students with disabilities. Members meet five times per year (this includes a summer orientation meeting). The meetings start at 9 a.m. and go until 4 p.m. Members serve for three years.
The panel seeks candidates from the following representative groups:
- Individuals with disabilities/parents of students with disabilities
- Regular education teachers
- Teachers of students with disabilities
- Charter school
- Homeless Education/McKinney-Vento Homeless Act Administrators (Local Education Agency Person)
