Openings on the UPPAC

Positions Open on The Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission

State Superintendent Brad Smith is soliciting nominations for positions on the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission. Four positions are open for three-year terms beginning on July 1, 2015. All positions may be filled by licensed educators.

A candidate nominates himself/herself by submitting an application and a vita. An individual may also nominate a qualified colleague. The process may also include a personal interview. Applications and vitae are due on or before June 8, 2015 to:

Ben Rasmussen, Executive Secretary
Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission
250 East 500 South, P. O. Box 144200
Salt Lake City, Utah 84114-4200
Benjamin.Rasmussen@schools.utah.gov

The following positions are open:

  • Licensed teacher member (member term-limited)
  • Licensed teacher member (member expected to renew)
  • Licensed teacher member (member expected to renew)
  • Licensed administrator member (member expected to renew)

The Superintendent strives for a balanced representation from throughout the state when making appointments. Members who will continue to serve on the Commission are from the P.T.A. and Box Elder, Salt Lake, Canyons, Murray, and Juab Districts. Members expected to renew are from Granite, Alpine, and Jordan Districts. This does not rule out applicants from these districts; however, applicants from other areas of the state may be given preference. The Superintendent also seeks a balance of men and women and urban and rural districts. Applicants from charter, private, and parochial schools will also be considered. Once an educator applies for the Commission, the
application is retained to be considered for vacancies or new appointments, if the educator is not initially selected.

Please encourage outstanding educators in your school districts to apply for positions on the Commission. Attached is a copy of a nominating application. The membership of this committee is even more critical (and interesting) due to the current interest in educator ethics and background check concerns. You may make additional copies or you may print the information from our website, www.schools.utah.gov/uppac. For further information, interested educators may contact me at (801) 538-7835.
