Search Process for New Superintendent

State Board Commences Search Process for New Superintendent

The Utah State Board of Education today created a search committee to appoint a Superintendent of Public Instruction.

The committee is scheduled to meet for the first time next week. It will then establish criteria, a search process, and a timeline.

Board Member Mark Huntsman, of Fillmore, has been appointed chair of the search committee. Other Board members who desire to serve in the process will comprise the rest of the group. They have not yet been named.

The Board’s bylaws outline the process by which a superintendent shall be appointed. Those requirements include creating a selection committee and allowing at least 30 days for completion of the selection process.

Former Superintendent Brad C. Smith resigned in February. Sydnee Dickson, who worked as deputy superintendent under Smith, is serving as interim superintendent and will remain in that position for the immediate future.
