2016 Sorenson Legacy Awards

Recipients of the 2016 Sorenson Legacy Awards for Excellence in Arts Education were honored on May 13 at the Salt Lake Marriott City Center. The awards recognize excellence in arts education in Utah’s public schools.

Elementary Theatre Instruction   Melanie Kieffer, Park Lane & Edgemont Elementary

Secondary Theatre Instruction   Phaidra Atkinson, Corner Canyon High

Elementary Arts Integration   Jennifer Heldenbrand, Canyon Crest Elementary

Elementary Music Instruction   Julianna Gylseth, Spring Creek Elementary

Secondary Music Instruction   Chad King, Millcreek Jr. High

Secondary Music Instruction   Heath Wolf, Farmington Jr. High

Elementary Visual Art Instruction   Rosemary Mitchell, Woodrow Wilson Elementary

Secondary Visual Art Instruction   Jordan Anjewierden, Monticello Academy

Secondary Visual Art Instruction   Michael Bingham, Mountain Crest High

Exemplary Arts Program   Highland Park Elementary, Salt Lake School District

Lifetime Achievement in Arts Education   John Miller, American Fork High

Each winner received an artistic award for display, along with a cash award of $2,500, with an additional $2,500 awarded to the school/district for the purpose of supporting the arts program.

The Lifetime Achievement Award in Arts Education is given for exemplary service over a career. The recipient of this award receives $5,000. Another $5,000 is awarded for an Exemplary Arts Program or Initiative in a public school or district.
