8:15 a.m.         2. Past and Present of Utah Assessment and Accountability Policy

Legislators and board members will hear a briefing on the statutory and regulatory

history of student assessment and accountability policy in Utah from the early 1990s

through the present day.

9:45 a.m.         3. Purpose of Statewide Assessment and Accountability

What is the purpose of assessment and accountability at the state level? Does our

current statewide assessment and accountability system align with that purpose? Are

there barriers that prevent our current statewide assessment and accountability

system from fulfilling its purpose? Legislators and board members will have an

opportunity to discuss their perspectives on these issues after being briefed on the

current uses of statewide student assessment and barriers to valid and reliable

assessment and accountability.

Legislators and board members will hear a briefing on the teacher shortage nationally

and in Utah and have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss what additional

data may be needed as policymakers consider ways to address the issue.
