The Utah State Board of Education will meet as the Governing Board of the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind and hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new C. Mark Openshaw Education Center, 1655 E 3300 South, Salt Lake City, on Thursday, October 6 beginning at 1 p.m. and hold committee meetings beginning at 5:45 p.m. at the Board’s office, 250 E 500 South, Salt Lake City.

The meeting at the C. Mark Openshaw Education Center will not be streamed live, but will be recorded and the recording will be available sometime after the meeting. The full Board will meet on Friday, October 7 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Board’s Salt Lake City office. Highlights of this month’s meeting include:

  • A ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration at the new C. Mark Openshaw Education Center, the Salt Lake campus of the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind. The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 6 at the campus, 1655 E 3300 South, Salt Lake City. The campus is named in honor of late Utah State Board of Education Member C. Mark Openshaw.

  • On Friday, the Board will consider taking a position in support of Amendment B, which deals with State School Fund distributions, on the November ballot.

  • On Friday, the Board will review its legislative priorities in anticipation of January’s general session.
