USTAR Request for Proposals

The Utah Science Technology and Research (USTAR) Request for Proposals (RFP) is now available for three-year LEA USTAR grants starting Fiscal Year (FY) 2018.

All LEAs are up for application this year so every interested LEA will be applying for the available funding, therefore, it is needless to say that this year’s grant review process is going to be very competitive.

The proposal format this round is very different than previous years (as discussed in SSECC and SMECC meetings) and may take additional planning time to prepare. Please look into and become familiar with the proposal requirements soon to have sufficient time to complete a high-quality proposal before the deadline.

Another change is that USTAR will now be on a strict three-year application cycle. Therefore, the next application period will not occur until 2020 for (FY) 2021, and if an LEA misses this funding cycle they will be without USTAR funding for 3 years until the next cycle begins.

NOTE: As always, the funding of all USTAR grants is contingent on continued funding from the Utah State Legislature.

All proposals will be due via email to Ricky Scott (richard.scott@schools.utah.gov)  and Joleigh Honey (joleigh.honey@schools.utah.gov) on February, 17, 2017 at 5:00pm.

Due to the changes in both the RFP and Application, look for an email from Joleigh Honey and me to go over the RFP sometime in mid-December via a webinar. We will also be addressing your questions in that meeting so be sure to start becoming familiar with the proposal as soon as possible.

Ricky Scott is the K-12 Science Education Specialists at the Utah Board of Education office.
