As we have moved forward with the Utah Common Core Standards in Math and Language Arts, we have wanted to emphasize that just as we have promises to keep for literacy and numeracy, we must also keep our promise to be an aid to families as they prepare their children to be effective citizens. Social studies and civic education are keys to that aid.
